PAYBILL Seeking Transparent Pay.jpg

It starts with

Pay Transparency.

Pay transparency is a necessary step towards pay equity. Transparency allows companies to be held accountable to their statements and goals. It helps reduce bias and works to close the gender and racial pay gaps.

Beyond individual companies, pay transparency is important across the arts sector. Job sites that require clear rates of pay on job posts improve pay transparency across the industry.

I have led several campaigns for pay transparency in the theatre industry. In 2020, I worked with On Our Team, an advocacy organization I co-founded, in their successful initiative to gain a pay transparency policy on the League of Chicago Theatres’ job site. In 2021, On Our Team and the national group Costume Professionals for Wage Equity engaged successful campaigns for pay transparency on Playbill and BroadwayWorld’s job sites.

Currently, I am working with On Our Team and the national group Costume Professionals for Wage Equity on a campaign for a pay transparency policy on Backstage.com’s job site.
